What "vig" is
The vig (or juice) is the sportsbook's built-in margin. Convert both sides of a match to implied chances and they'll add up to more than 100%. The extra is what the book expects to keep.
−150 implies 60.0%, and +125 implies 44.4%. Together: 104.4%.
Fair chance for the favorite: 60.0 ÷ 104.4 = 57.4%
Fair chance for the underdog: 44.4 ÷ 104.4 = 42.6%
This is the simplest way to remove the vig (the "multiplicative" method). It works well for two-way markets like a tennis match winner, where the margin is usually 3% to 8%.
Why fair odds matter
Fair odds are the market's best guess with the margin taken out. Compare them with your own estimate, or with the Tennis Gauge model's win chance for today's matches. Common questions
What does no-vig mean?
No-vig odds are a sportsbook's odds with its built-in margin taken out, so the two sides add up to exactly 100%. They show what the market thinks each side's real chance is.
How do you calculate the vig on a bet?
Convert both sides' odds to implied chances and add them. Anything over 100% is the margin. -110 on both sides adds up to 104.8%, a hold of about 4.5%.
What is a normal vig for tennis?
Match-winner markets on major tournaments are often priced with a 3% to 6% margin. Lower-level events such as Challengers and ITF matches usually carry more.
